In the ionic title compound, [Ni(H 2 O) 6 ](C 8 H 6 NO 5 ) 2 Á5H 2 O, the [Co(H 2 O) 6 ] 2+ cation, (4-nitrophenoxy)acetate anions and water molecules engage in O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonding, generating a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network.
