✦ Synopsis

The determmatlon of phenohc compounds m kerosene by flow-mjectlon analysis has been mvestlgated The approach IS based on the reactlon of phenols urlth 4-ammoanttpyrme m the presence of an oxldlzmg agent to form red compounds easdy detectable at 500 nm Phenohcs are separated from kerosene through a slhcone membrane mto a basx acceptor stream which mntams the 4-ammoantlpyrme reagent followed by confluence with the oxldlzmg reagent The sensitivity of the system can be easdy manipulated by modlfymg the size of the extraction cell and the preconcentratlon time Direct UV detection at 240 nm was also tested, the acceptor stream bemg a basic buffered solution

An automated two-dye flow injection analysis system to quantitate DNA and RNA in crude extracts of tissues is described. The method uses the fluorochrome dyes ethidium bromide and Hoechst 33258. DNA concentration is determined directly from its fluorescence in Hoechst dye. RNA is estimated from fluo
