✦ Synopsis

As a person suscepatable to episodes of depression I found this book very helpful with regard to finding usefull tools to combat a habitual pattern of negative thinking and mood swings.

It starts with your awareness of the habitual thought patterns and putting the tools presented in the book to use - for me, particularly, the line in the middle of the page tool (negative thought vs. rational/factual thinking is a very simple but effective process amoung the other processes presented in the book. Also, it would be helpful to work with a psychologist who is knowledgable in CT at the same time.

There is a summary of antidepressent meds in the last few chapters that gives a good explanation of the mechanics of how they are supposed to work and the differences between types of meds. based upon your need if you require meds. in addition to the therapy.

There are a lot of clinical studies that are referenced and explained which make the book kind of tedious or long but I guess were necessary in presenting the tools. I found the paperback version kind of unwieldy if you nare a person who underlines a lot.

The tools presented are helpful and it would be better to start now the later if you need hel with recurring depression.. Of course it is an advantage to be in a nondepreesive state when appling the tools rather than being totally overwhelmeunrational at the time.
