✦ Synopsis


Block and random copolymers of y-benzyl Irglutamate and glycine were studied by optical rotatory dispersion methods in order to ascertain the extent and stability of the a-helix formed by these polymers in appropriate solvent mixtures. Results indicate that when in solution such polymers do contain sections of a-helix. However, it appears that glycine does not readily fit into the a-helix which is largely due to the y-benzyl Irglutamate segments. Further, there are indications that the helical sections in the random copolymers are due to the nonrandomness of the polymerization.
