-The oxidation of tetrahydrofurao was iuvestigated at a platinized platinum elstrode in aqueous acidic medium by potentiostatic polarimtion measurements coupled with indirect radiotracer adsorption studies. Phenomena occurring in thecourse of the oxidation ofTHF arevery similar to those observed in the case of diols. At low potentials (300-500 mV on rhe scale) only the formation of strongly &et&orbed species oozurs. These species inhibit the main oxidation process leading to succinic acid. A reaction sequence composed of several steps is proposed for the interpretation of the phenomena observed.
