It is proposed that the splitting observed in the low temperature reflection spectrum of bis-pamtoluene sulfonate diacetyiene polymer single crystals is a manifestation of site splitting in a Frenkel exciton transition. Possible origins of the site splitting enemy are discussed\_

β¦ Synopsis
The eIectrorefIectance and eIectroabsorption spem of FTS sIngIe crystals zhow a unique dependence on the orientation of the external field which reffects the quasi one-dimensional character of the ne!ectron system of the polymer chain. Above the range of excitonic transitions a strong eIectrorefIectance signal indicates the onset of interband transitions near 244 eV_ Exci~onic and intzrband transitions are observed for poktrization of light paraUe1 as well as perpendicular to the chain_ Below the absorption e&e a weak transition is found at l-75 eV which may be correktted to the comparabIy high

The sign of the zero field splitting parameter D of a triplet carbene in partially polymerized poly-[1.2-bis-Cptolylsulfonyloxymethylen)-I-buten-3-inylen] (ITS) has been determined from the temperature dependence of the ESR intensities to be positive.
The eIe&icaI properties of PDA single crystals are found to be highly anisotropic. The ratio of the charge carrier mobility paraIIe1 and perpendicular to the chain ax5.s mpvured in the (100) cryst&p\_pIane is (8 c 3) X 102. The quantum yield for photoelectric chvge carrier generation is by a factor
The 298 K Raman and reflection spectra of the polydiacetylene THD, a close structural variant of DCHD, are presented. The polymer double-and triple-bond stretch frequencies are 1485 and 21 I 1 cm-', respectively, and the lowest electronic transition peaks at 17600 cm-'. The reflection spectrum is mo
Raman spectra of the black polydiacetylene single crystals TS6 and TS/FBS were recorded by means of a conventional Raman spectrometer with excitation in the near-infrared spectral region. We observed several sidegroup vibrations below 900 cm-' additional to the four strong vibrational modes which mo
