✦ Synopsis

A dual-frequency strip-slee¨e monopole antenna for mobile handheld units has been designed that operates in both frequency bands allocated for wireless communication. The bandwidth of the antenna is 19.3 and 11.2% for AMPS and PCS bands, respecti¨ely with VSWR F 2. These bandwidths are practically unchanged in the proximity of the user's head. Rele¨ant characteristics of the designed antenna ha¨e been analyzed with and without the presence of the user's head using the ( ) finite-difference time-domain FDTD method. The resultant deposition of the microwa¨e power in the user's head, called the specific absorption ( ) rate SAR , has also been calculated.
