✦ Synopsis
Essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation of leaves, inflorescences and fruits of Vitex ugnus-castus L. (Verbenaceae). Yields ranged from 0.8 to 1.8% on dry weight basis. Eighty-five compounds were identified by GC-MS. The ratio of hydrocarbon : oxygen-containing components was nearly 1:l. 1.8-Cineole, a-terpineol, sabinene, P-caryophyllene, p-selinene and cis-/3-farnesene were the main components in the oils.
