Nickel-Catalyzed Hydrodefluorination of Fluoroarenes and Trifluorotoluenes with Superhydride (Lithium Triethylborohydride). -Two new catalyst systems are developed. Fluoroarenes and Ξ±,Ξ±,Ξ±-trifluorotoluene derivatives are reduced by the combination of 40 mol% NiCl2 and LiBHEt3 to afford the corresponding arenes and toluenes in excellent yields, whereas a catalytic amount of 5 mol% NiCl2(PCy3)2 in combination with LiBHEt 3 exhibits high activity and selectivity for fluoroarenes leaving C-F bonds of Ξ±,Ξ±,Ξ±-trifluorotoluene derivatives untouched. -(WU,
