The convergent approach to a broad variety of functionalized alkynes starts with a Knoevenagel-type condensation of 4-unsubstituted isoxazolines with ketones or aldehydes. The resulting adducts are subjected to Michael addition with various nucleophiles such as hydride, cyanide or phosphite. Exposure of these products to sodium nitrite/ferrous sulfate in aqueous acetic acid finally provides the alkynes. -(BOIVIN,
