✦ Synopsis


An analysis is made of the usefulness of the analytical solution for the case of ons-dimensional diffusion in a homogeneous three-component system, in which it is assumed that all the diffusion coefficients are independent of concentration.

It is shown that the solution becomes trivial if it is applied to the closed region of the composition triangle, i.e. the region including all binary as well as ternary compositions.

If the binary compositions are excluded, certain restrictions must still be placed upon the values of the diffusion coefficients chosen to fit experimental data, if they are to be compat,ible with physically meaningful ranges of concentration.

Si l'on exclut les compositions bin&es, il est encore necessaire d'introduire certaines restrictions celativement aux coefficients de diffusion adopt& pour expliquer les donnees experimentales, si l'on desira que ceux-ci correspondent it des domaines de concentrations ponsedant une signification physique. GEWISSE NOTWENDIGE EINSCHRANKUNGEN BE1 DER MATHEMATISCHEN DARSTELLUNG DER DIFFUSION EINES DREI-KOMPONENTEN-SYSTEMS Die Brauchbarkeit der analytischen Losung im Fall eindimensionaler Diffusion eines Drei-Komponenten-Systems, bei dem alle Diffusionskoeffizienten als konzentrationsunabhiingig angenommen werden, wird untersucht. Die L&sung wird trivial, wenn man sie auf den geschlossenen Bereich des Kompositionsdreiecks anwendet, also auf das Gebiet, das alle bin&en sowohl wie tern&en Zusammensetzungen eiuschliel3t. Werden die bin&en Zusammensetzungen ausgeschlossen, mu9 man die zur Wiedsrgebe der Experimente gewiihlten Diffusionskoe~ienten gewissen Einsehr~nkun~en unterwerfen, wenn sie mit physikalisch sinnvollen Konzentrationsbereichen vertraglich sein sollen.
