In the title compound, [Sn(CH 3 ) 2 (C 8 H 4 O 4 )], the coordination geometry around the Sn IV centre can be described as highly distorted octahedral. The chelating benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate ligands connect the centres to form an infinite one-dimensional polymeric chain structure.

The crystal structure determination of the title compound, [Sn(C~4~H~9~)~2~(C~8~F~4~O~4~)]~__n__~, revealed an infinite polymeric chain in the solid state. The Sn atom is in a distorted sixfold coordination between bicapped tetrahedral and skew-bipyramidal.
