✦ Synopsis

In the title compound, [Cd(C 14 H 9 O 5 ) 2 (C 12 H 10 N 2 )] n , the Cd II atom lies at a centre of symmetry and is in a highly distorted octahedral geometry. The 1,2-di-4-pyridylethylene ligand functions as a 2 -bridging ligand to form a zigzag chain. The 4,4 0 -oxydibenzoate(1À) anions protrude on both sides of the chain. O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen-bond interactions link the chains into a two-dimensional network structure.

In the title compound, [ZnCl~2~(C~12~H~10~N~2~)]~__n__~, the Zn^II^ ion displays a tetrahedral coordination geometry. Each 1,2-di-4-pyridylethylene ligand is located on an inversion center and bridges Zn^II^ ions, forming a zigzag polymeric chain. Weak C—H...Cl hydrogen bonding is observed in the cr

The polymeric title complex, [Zn(NO 3 ) 2 (C 24 H 20 N 8 )(H 2 O) 2 ] n , features distorted ZnN 2 O 4 octahedra with each Zn II atom being located on an inversion center. Adjacent Zn ions are doubly bridged by two equivalent 1,4-di-3-pyridyl-2,3-diaza-1,3-butadiene ligands to form linear chains.
