✦ Synopsis


REFERENCE DATA causes the electron density to be comparatively lower at C-3 and C-5 than at C-2 and C-4, so that the former signals resonate at lower fields. Distinction between the signals of the C-2/C-4 and C-3/C-5 pairs was achieved by comparing the C-H coupling patterns of 5 and 1. Compounds 1, 5 and 7 served as models for assignments in the closely related compounds 2, 3, 4 and 6.

The change in the stereochemistry of the 10,ll-double bond from E in 3 to Z in 6 is reflected in the changes in chemical shifts of these olefinic carbons, as well as in the neighbouring carbons (C-9, C-1', C-2', C-6').
