β¦ Synopsis
One characteristic of DNA, CsCI buoyant density peak values, was determined for DNA samples isolated from 93 speeies belonging to 11 orders of mammals. The CsCl buoyant density values varied over a very narrow range, 1.696-1.701 g/cm 3. Satellite DNAs were found in a number of species. The function and origin of these satellite DNAs are not known.

## Abstract The buoyant density of Tβ4 DNA was determined by equilibrium sedimentation in a density gradient, of mixed solutions of cesium and magnesium chlorides and bromides. The preferential hydration was calculated from these data, allowing appropriately for the exchange equilibrium of DNA with
Cesium chloride buoyant density analysis shows the density difference between the double-stranded alternating copolymers of dT and dA, poly(dAT.dAT) and of dA and BrdU, (dABU.dABU), to be 0.1730 g/cm". A mammalian DNA fully substituted with 5'-bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) increases in density over contr
A rapid and easy method for the isolation of plasmid DNA, both in analytical and preparative scale, is described. Using dye-buoyant density-gradient centrifugation in a vertical rotor, separation of covalentlv closed. sunercoiled plasmid DNA from relaxed circular and linear DNA is completed within 1
