## Abstract 17 spontaneous Gal^โ^ mutants of __S. coelicolor__ were studied using Southern blottings, but no insertion or deletion mutations were found. 10 mutants of __S. lividans__ included three deletion mutations. The reasons for the lack of insertion mutants are discussed.
