✦ Synopsis

Excited singlet-singlet absorption spectra of aromatic charge-transfer complexes have been recorded using pulsed-laser excitation. The spectra (obtained for the tetracyanobenzene-toluene, tetracyanobenzene-benzene and pyromellitlcdianhydride-mesitylene systems) are practically identical with those of the negative ions of the corresponding acceptors. The observation is consistent with the charge-transfer character of the excited complexes.
