## Abstract A tacile synthesis of 2‐nitrobenzaldehyde‐__formyl__‐^13^__C__ was developed. This compound was converted to the labelled antiarrhythmic agent, encainide‐^13^__C__ hydrochloride, 4‐methoxy‐__N__‐[2‐[2‐(1‐methyl‐2‐piperidinyl)ethyl‐**1**‐^13^__C__]phenyl]benzamide hydrochloride.
