An N 2 S 2 -donor set de®nes the approximately tetrahedral coordination environment about the zinc centre in the monomeric title compound, [Zn(S 2 CO i Pr) 2 (4,7-Me 2 phen)] or [Zn(C 4 H 7 OS 2 ) 2 (C 14 H 12 N 2 )], which has crystallographically imposed twofold rotation symmetry.

In the crystal structure of the title compound (BCP), C 26 H 20 N 2 , the phenyl rings are rotated out of the phenanthroline plane, with torsion angles of 119.66 ( 14) and 117.06 ( 14) . The asymmetric unit consists of one half BCP molecule, which is located on a crystallographic twofold rotation.
