✦ Synopsis
The effect of trifluoroacetylation on the 13C chemical shifts of 2-acetamido-2-deoxyhexoses was examined. Studies of the 2-acetamido derivatives of glucose, galactose and mannose established that no regular trend in the 13C shifts occwred on tduoroacetylation. This was in marked contrast to the results obtained for the 'H chemical shifts.

## Abstract The use of trifluoroacetic anhydride as an NMR solvent for sugars has been explored. Dissolution of carbohydrates in this solvent is accompanied by trifluoroacetylation at the hydroxyl groups. Esterification results in downfield shifts of the sugar protons yielding very well resolved ^1
13C NMR spectral data for nine tetrahydro-1.5-benzodiazepin-2-ones are reported and the chemical shift assignments are discussed. The steric energies of the E and Z isomers of formyl derivatives were estimated by computer molecular modeling
The 13C NMR spectral data for 18 dihydropyrimidinediones and their 2-thio analogues are presented. The influence of substituents on the shielding of neighbouring atoms was analysed and the resonances were unambiguously assigned. 13C NMR spectroscopy was shown to be useful for structural determinatio
The 400 MHz t H and 15 MHz 13 C N MR spectra of a series of 2,4-diphenylquinoline derivatives are presented. The characteristic H-3 and ipso-phenyl carbon signals are the most useful for the identification of these compounds. The effects of a peri-phenyl/methyl couple upon the ~ H and 13C NMR spectr
