In the crystal structure of the title compound, C 16 H 14 I 2 N 2 , the molecule lies on a crystallographic inversion center and hence the two imine groups are mutually trans.

In the title compound, [RuCl 2 (C 24 H 26 N 2 )], the multidentate ligand functions as both an arene and a carbene, and occupies four coordination sites. The two Cl atoms complete a distorted octahedron about the Ru atom.
