โฆ Synopsis
Electronic structures of CePd2AI 3, PrPd2AI3 and SmPd2AI 3 are studied by X-ray photoemission (XPS) and inverse photoemission (BIS) spectroscopy. The rare earth atom 3d XPS spectra have shown a prominent spin-orbit doublet (3d94f ") with a shoulder in the smaller binding energy (EB) region which is ascribable to the 3d94f "+1 state. Hybridization between the 4f and conduction electron states is, however, very small. The 5d band crosses the Fermi level (EF).

The magnetic properties of a new heavy-fermion compound CePd2AI3 with TN = 2.9 K have been investigated using NMR techniques. Above TN the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T 1 of 27AI increases gradually up to 20 K and becomes T independent above 20 K. Below T = 3.0 K, just above TN, I/T1 drop
