## Abstract A compact wideband monopolar patch antenna, which is resonated by a multioperating structure, is presented. The multioperating structured antenna is constructed by a crossshape copper plate folded as an upward cap, excited by a square disc coupling feed. Without the folded upward wall,

Abstract
The design and radiation characteristics of a wide band dumbbellโshaped patch excited by planar strip monopole with truncated ground plane is proposed in this letter. The antenna can be easily modified for dual band operation by adjusting the location of the patch over the planar monopole. The antenna offers a bandwidth of 35 and 9% at 3.2 and 5.3 GHz bands, respectively. The overall area of the antenna including the 50 ฮฉ line feed is only 65 ร 65 mm^2^. ยฉ 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
