Trio types of time resolved experiments have been performed on the intermediate sized poi).ttomtc molecule dieth> I&-mine_ in the liquid phase. in order to elucidate the pathway for vtbrationsl relaxation of the u= 3 level of the NH stretchins mode, which has 9410 cm-l of energy. Both techniques had cahbrated abso!ute sensitwities and \xere specific for ~ibrationd modes of ca. 3000 cm-', yet wrth neither %ere transient popul.ttions m such modes observable. It is inferred that population rel~ntion m this highly excited room tempemture system proceeds on the subpicosecond ttme xalc to lcmcr 1) mgr levels_ The importance of intramolecular channels for this decay is suppested.
