Recently we reported on the synthesis of the C 2 -symmetric trans-rac-ansa-lanthanoacenes [1] [(h 5 -C 12 H 8 ) 2 M(thf) 2 ] (M Yb, 1; Sm, 2) by reductive coupling of acenaphthylene (acene) with activated metallic ytterbium or samarium.
