Abstract
The microsrip‐fed ultrawideband (UWB) monopole antenna is studied. The design is demonstrated assuming FR4 substrate with a relative dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1.6 mm. The presented results show that the proposed antenna of 43 mm ×50 mm dimensions has a bandwidth from 2.85 GHz to more than 15 GHz. The bandwidth covered 3.1–10.6 GHz, which has approved by the Federal Communications Commission as a commercial UWB band. Satisfactory performance was obtained using FR4 substrate, allowing low cost of production. Moreover, the antenna features near omnidirectional characteristics and good radiation efficiency. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
