✦ Synopsis
The redox telomerization of vinylidene chloride with carbon tetrachloride catalyzed by iron or copper salts was thoroughly studied. The DP,, of the telomers obtained vary from 1 to 100, roughly. The concentration of the reactants and the nature of the solvents exert some effect on the molecular weight distribution. The first adducts l a -l d (n = 1 to 4) were isolated and identified by NMR spectroscopy and viscosimetry.
