Report on a round-table discussion held during the 5th World Congress o.f lFAC, Paris. Friday, 16 June 1972 Summary--The main contributions to the round-table discussion on linear multivariable theory which took place during the 5th IFAC Congress are summarised, and some conclusions reached about the trends which are apparent in the development of the subject. A set of background notes is provided, together with a list of references in which the work mentioned is described.
