โฆ Synopsis
QUANTITATIVE method for the preparation of 5-iodo-2aminotoluene (s-iodo-o-toluidine) has been devised in the Bureau of Chemistry.
The following derivatives of 5-iodo-o-toluidine were prepared and analyzed : Hydrochloride, hydrobromide, hydrofluoride, hydriodide, perchlorate, picrate, picrolonate, mercurichloride, oxalate, urea, urea hydrochloride, phenylurea, a-naphthylurea, and &cyanide. * Communicated by the Chief of the Bureau.

## The synthesis of the title compound I via a halophosphaalkenclDicls Alder route is &scribed. Conversion of 1 to the corresponding zinc derivative 7 as well as conversion of the tungsten complex 6 to the lithium cqund 9 allows funtionalisation of the phosphinine system at the 2-position.
