β¦ Synopsis
In vivo transfection of Eastern woodchucks (Marmota monax) with recombinant woodchuck hepatitis virus (WHV) DNA is effective in inducing virus infection for the study of replication, pathogenicity, and oncogenicity of wild-type and mutated WHV. The one drawback to this procedure is the need for preparation of large amounts of WHV DNA. Reduction of the amount of WHV DNA in the transfection protocol necessary to induce infection would save considerable time and resources. Therefore, we conducted a titration of WHV DNA, ranging from 50 Β΅g to 50 pg of DNA, in adult woodchucks to determine the minimum infectious dose of recombinant WHV DNA. As little as 50 ng of transfected WHV DNA induced productive infection in adult woodchucks. Thus, transfection with large amounts of recombinant WHV DNA appears to be unnecessary.

The leading cause of human hepatocellular carcino-been observed in hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), mas (HCCs) is hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The chromosomal sites of woodchuck hepatitis virus (WHV) DNA integration were identified in a woodchuck hepatocellular carcinoma-derived cell line (WH257GE 10) by the in situ hybridization technique using 'H-labelled WHV whole genome (WHV 2) as a probe. The C-banded chromosome spreads from WH257GE 1
To assess the role of immunization against hepatitis delta antigen in the prevention of hepatitis delta virus infection, woodchuck carriers of woodchuck hepatitis virus were immunized with a 64 amino acid portion of hepatitis delta antigen from its N-terminal region. The protein was expressed in E8c
## Abstract Four woodchucks chronically infected with hepatitis delta virus (HDV) were treated with cyclosporinβA (CyA) for 11 weeks. All animals had detectable HDAg in the liver and two of them were also positive for HDAg and HDVβRNA in serum. Reappearance of HDV in serum was noted in one of the t
