Elevated serum transaminase levels of dengue patients indicate the possible impact of dengue virus infection on liver function. To elucidate the action of dengue virus infection in liver cells, an in vitro cell line system was established that mimicked the liver status of diverse clinical patients.

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome (DHF/DSS) are severe complications of dengue virus (DV) infection. However, the pathogenesis of hemorrhage induced by dengue virus infection is poorly understood. Since endothelial cells play a pivotal role in the regulation of hemostasis, we studied the effect of DV infection on the production of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAIβ1) in vitro using both primary isolated endothelial cells, human umbilical cord veins cells, and a human microvascular endothelial cell line. DV infection significantly induced the secretion of tPA but not PAIβ1 of human endothelial cells. In addition, tPA mRNA of endothelial cells was induced by DV as demonstrated by RTβPCR. Antibody against ILβ6 but not control antibody inhibited DVβinduced tPA production of endothelial cells. Furthermore, a good correlation between sera levels of ILβ6 and tPA was found in DHF but not DF patients. These results suggest that ILβ6 can regulate DVβinduced tPA production of endothelial cells, which may play important roles in the pathogenic development of DHF/DSS. J. Med. Virol. 70:610β616, 2003. ## Abstract Enterovirus 71 (EV71), a neurotropic virus, its infection is transmitted mainly by the oralβfecal route. However, it is unclear how EV71 is disseminated/spread from initial replication sites to the central nervous system. Since endothelial cells form the interface between blood and tiss
The aim of the study was to investigate whether infection of endothelial cells with human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) perturbs expression and production of plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 (PAI-1). mRNA expression of PAI-1 was investigated by isolating total RNA from HCMVinfected and control cells,
