✦ Synopsis

The thermal calculations for Y-Ba-Cu-O and Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O thin films under pulsed excimer laser irradiation are deduced from the resolution of the one-dimensional heat flow equation, using the most recent values for the thermal and optical parameters of these compounds in the UV range. The time evolution of the surface temperature, melting threshold and depth of the molten layer and vaporization threshold are calculated in different irradiation conditions (wavelength and pulse duration).

Bulk Y-Ho-Ba-Cu-0 and Y-Gd-Ba-Cu-G samples, which were prepared by a "powder melting process" (PMP) method, have been investigated. The results indicate that J, can be improved and the melting temperature may be changed by Ho and Gd substitution. In our samples the field dependence of J. is rather w
