Three different types of sugars, reported to be present in the carbohydrate moiety of glycoproteins, were estimated on paper chromatograms using 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride. The use of steam for the visualization of the sugars on the chromatograms diminished the reaction time from the usual
