A LIF technique that employs a precisely positioned, varying view, field has been developed to give quantitative measurements for vibrational relaxation rates in supersonic jets of IZ(B, u' ~43) seeded in Ar, N, and CO. The multiple vibrational quantum transfer effect is very pronounced. In particul

โฆ Synopsis
The vibrational relaxation of Is by Ha has been studied in a supersonic free jet. It was observed that the addition of 5% Ha to the hehum carrier gas greatly reduces the concentration of X r Z&" = I) 12 in the jet as compared to the concentration in a pure helium carrier. From this observation we have determined that the average vibrational relaxation cross sections of H2 is 7.1 times as large as that of helium. Since the average vrbrational relaxation cross section of deuterium is at least as large as that of hydrogen, the mech!anism responsible for this phenomenon appears not to be dominated by mass effects.

We have studied the 193 nm photodissociation of N20-H20 complexes produced in a supersonic jet resulting in the reactantpair reaction, N20\*HZO+hv+20H+N,. Measured internal energy, spin-orbit and n-doublet distributions in OH by laserinduced fluorescence suggest a reaction scheme much different fro
Vibrational relasatioo of CO2 by Hz0 has been studied theoretiully. Earlier theoretical works are critically analyzed. A new mechanism of V-R-T interaction is put forxvard and a functional equation for the probability factor is obtained. Collisions of CO2 with H-J 0 adsorbed on a solid surface are
