## Abstract ^14^Cโlabeled hexahydroโ1,3,5โtrinitroโ1,3,5โtriazine (2, RDX) was prepared by nitrolysis of hexahydroโ1,3,5โtripropionylโ1,3,5โtriazine (1) for bioenvironmental studies. 1 was synthesized from paraformaldehyde and propionitrile by a modified method reported earlier.
The thermal decomposition of RDX has been investigated in a static system below its melting point at ~ 195ยฐ(?. "the initial decomp<~,ition of RDX takes place in the vapor phase. Ilydroxymethyl [ormamidc and polymeric materials tbrmed from hydroxymethyl formamide have been shown to be major products.
