The photochemical breakdown of visual purple in solution and the reactions which ensue have been studied by a number of investigators during the past several years (e.g. : Nakashima, '29 ; Hosoya, '33 ; Chase, '36; Lythgoe, '37; Wald, '38; Lythgoe and Quilliam, '38). The review by Hecht ( '42) gives

Abstract
Initial rates of formation of primary products have been measured in the pyrolysis of ethylene at 500°C, and a mechanism for the reaction is proposed based on the isomerization of the n−hexyl radical. Additions of oxygen in amounts less than 0.1% markedly increased the rate of formation of all products, but oxygen was not completely consumed in the reaction. It is shown that secondary initiation processes are important at very low conversions, and butene‐1 is the most reactive product. Bimolecular reactions between olefins and with oxygen are important steps in the mechanism.

## Abstract The thermal reaction of 2‐pentene (__cis__ or __trans__) has been performed in a static system over the temperature range of 470°–535°C at low extent of reaction and for initial pressures of 20–100 torr. The main products of decomposition are methane and 1,3‐butadiene. Other minor prima

The thermal reaction of hydrogen-butene-24s mixtures has been studied in a static system at low extent of reaction around 500°C. Hydrogen does not affect the thermal reaction itself of the olefin, hut gives rise to new stoichiometries of hydrogenolysis and hydrogenation, which are specified The rea
The reaction rates and selectivity of lower olefines formation in high temperature reactions, such as catalytic methane dehydrodimerization and catalytic pyrolysis of C, hydrocarbons are substantialy enhanced by oxygen and oxygen-containing compounds.
2-Propyl radicals have been generated from the photolysis of solutions OF 2,2-azopropane and 2,4-dirnethyl-?-pentanone in decane in a glass and a metal cell. The time course of their reactions in the presence and absence of oxygen has been monitored between 323 and ## 373 K The primary process inv
