โœฆ Synopsis

Although much is known about the properties and chemistry of vinylsilanes,1~2 relatively little use has been made of them in organic synthesis.s We describe here the use of a vinylsilane as the precursor to the stereospecific synthesis of vinyl halides.

Vinyliodonium salts 2 were synthesized from vinylsilanes 1 by the reaction with iodosylbenzene and triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate. The reaction-occurs stereospecifically with retention of configuration. Vinyliodonium salts 2 are highly effective as the activated species of vinyl iodides. Thus, a

A concise and efficient TEA-mediated desymmetrization of meso-thioanhydride 6 with 5-ethoxy-5oxopentylzinc bromine has been developed, which affords a convenient strategy for the stereospecific total synthesis of (ยฑ)-biotin 1.
