Abstract
A crystalline salt of prolinium picrate, C~11~H~12~N~4~O~9~, has been prepared and characterized by Xβray crystallography. The salt crystallizes in orthorhombic space group P2~1~2~1~2~1~ with a = 6.325(1)Γ , b = 9.269(1)Γ , c = 24.379(4)Γ , V = 1429.4(5)Γ ^3^, Z = 4. In the title salt, the picrate and prolinium ion are held by different bifurcated hydrogen bonds of NβHβO type, and stablized by bifurcated hydrogen bonds of CHβO type. There exists a competion between hydrogen bonds and ΟβΟ stacking in determining the title crystal. (Β© 2003 WILEYβVCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
