Five highly excited (1)Sigma(+)(g) states of Na(2) were observed for the first time by pulsed optical-optical double resonance (OODR) fluorescence excitation spectroscopy. Three of the five states are assigned to the 6svarsigma (1)Sigma(+)(g), 6dvarsigma (1)Sigma(+)(g), and 7dvarsigma (1)Sigma(+)(g)

β¦ Synopsis
The absorption spectrum of (\mathrm{S}{2}) has been observed down to (400 \AA) on the SA63 line of SUPERACO (LURE) in Orsay, France. Two already reported Rydberg series converging to the (X^{2} \Pi{g}) ground state of (\mathrm{S}{2}^{+}, \pi{u}^{4} \pi_{g}^{2} X^{3} \Sigma_{g}^{-} \rightarrow \pi_{u}^{4} \pi_{g}\left(\pi_{u} n p\right)^{3} \Sigma_{u}^{-})and (\pi_{u}^{4} \pi_{g}^{2} X^{3} \Sigma_{g}^{-} \rightarrow \pi_{u}^{4} \pi_{g}\left(\sigma_{u} n p\right)^{3} \Pi_{u}), have been extended up to (n=10). Eight new series have been observed, giving ionization energies of 12.1247. 14.5562, 15.5737, 18.1067, 18.660, and (26.5838 \mathrm{eV}), in good agreement with the values reported by Dyke et al. (J. Chem. Soc. Faraday Trans. 7, 1026-1037, 1975) for the ({ }^{2} \Pi_{u},{ }^{2} \Sigma_{g}^{-},{ }^{2} \Pi_{u},{ }^{3} \Sigma_{u}^{-}), ({ }^{2} \Pi_{k}), and ({ }^{2} \Sigma_{g}^{-})ionic states, respectively. 1995 Academic Press.
