Abstract

With the aim of studying the reactivities of the tyrosine residues in insulin, this protein was brought together with varying amounts of radioactive iodine under such conditions that the tyrosine residues were the only groups to react. The total uptake of iodine was measured. The A and the B chains were then separated and the iodine content of each chain was determined.

The amounts of iodine present as mono‐ and as di‐iodinated tyrosine residues were established.
