✦ Synopsis

The reaction of disubstituted carbamoyl chlorides and sulfamoyl chlorides with sodium nitrite in acetonitrile has been shown to afford N-nitrosamines in excellent yields.

In 1959, Norris had described the reaction of dialkylcarbamoyl chlorides with silver nitrate: mixtures of dialkylnitramines and dialkylnitrosamines were formed. We have investigated the action of silver nitrate on N,N-dibenzylcarbamoyl chloride (1) in acetonitrile.

in the formation of N-nitrOSamine6 from the reaction of nitrate with carbamoyl and sulfamoyl chlorides. 102'4' may be postulated as the source from which stem the products shown in Eq. 1.

Reaction of commercially available trialkyl phosphites with N-phthalylamino acids gave mixtures of seven products, whereas the same reaction carried out with pure triethyl phosphite yielded only the desired 2-(N-phthalylamino)-1-oxoalkanephosphonates. These compounds underwent rearrangement to the s
