Abstract
A rapid and mild procedure for the preparation of [Nβ7βmethylβ^11^C] caffeine is described. Gaseous ^11^Cβmethyl iodide wa led into dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), containing theophylline (1,3βdimethylaxanthine) and sodium hydride. Purification of the reaction product was achieved by High Performance Liquid Chromatogrphy (HPLC).

## Abstract ^11^Cβlabelled galactose, glycerol and mannitol have been prepared biosynthetically from ^11^Cβlabelled carbon dioxide using species of marine algae. Following biosynthesis the labelled compounds are rapidly extracted from the algae and purified by liquid chromatography.
## Abstract Utilizing sodium [1β^14^C]propionate as a precursor, [^14^C]FKβ506, labeled at carbon atoms 10, 16, 18, 21a, 24, and 26, was produced by fermentative biosynthesis. Extractive isolation followed by chromatographic purification provided material of purity suitable for metabolism studies.
## Abstract Several easy preparative scale (0.5β1.5 g) syntheses of deuterium labelled caffeine, theophylline and theobromine are described. Some new selective syntheses of theophylline and theobromine have been developed. Labelled xanthines are of great interest in qualitative or quantitative isot
