FIVE FIGURES

Banvier in 1872 discovered the nodes which bear his name in peripheral nerve fibers. H e did not find them in the central nervous system. They were not found by Boll (1877), Boveri (1885)' Kolliker (1889), nor by Stohr ('28). On the other hand Tourneux and LeGoff (lSi5), Schieff erdecker (1877), Porter (1890) and Cajal ( '28) all claimed to have shown them in the central nervous system fibers. Bielschowsky ('28) remained skeptical.

Recently a number of authors, Feindel, Allison and Weddell ('48)' Allison and Feindel ('49), Hess and Young ('49a, b), Huxley and Stampfli ('49) and Bodian ('tjl), have again mentioned the nodes of the central nervous system. However, I am not aware of the publication of clear figures of nodes stained with osmic acid. The following report demonstrates the presence of nodes in the central nervous system following intra-arterial injection of osmic acid.
