## Abstract Local anesthetics inhibit the exchange transport of glucose in human erythrocytes. All compounds tested showed a competitive inhibition except lidocaine and baycaine causing a nonβcompetitive one. Moreover the transport system can bind two inhibitor molecules to one transport site as de

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Enzymatic activities involved in the transformations of uridine nucleotides by intact erythrocytes and their subfractions have been studied and the following enzymatic activities have been identified: UTPase, UDPase, UMPase and uridylate kinase.
UTPase activity was present exclusively in the stromal fraction while UMPase and uridylate kinase activities were specific in the soluble fraction. UDPase was present in both the stromal and soluble fractions.
This compartmentation in erythrocytes differs from that reported for the enzymes involved in adenine nucleotides transformations. Due to its sensitivity to Zn^2+^, uridylate kinase could be differentiated from adenylate kinase.

## Abstract Uridine nucleotides are endogenous nucleotides which are released into the extracellular space from mechanical stressed endothelial and epithelial cells as well as lipopolysaccharide (lps)βstimulated monocytes. Here, we studied the biological activity of the selective purinoreceptor P2Y
UDP-galactose 4-epimerase catalyzes the interconversion of UDP-galactose and UDP glucose. In the course of the reaction, the galacto-and glucopyranosyl rings undergo reversible oxidation to the 4-keto-glucopyranosyl ring by reaction with the enzyme-bound NAD + . The UDP-moiety of a substrate partici
