Abstract
The isolation of ‘citronin’ from the peel of Argentine oranges, Citrus sinensis, Linn. has been described and its structure established as a 7‐rhamnoglucoside of 5,7‐dihydroxy‐2′‐methoxyflavanone. A higher m.p. (240–241°) as against 235° reported in the literature for the glycoside, and 225–226° as against 204° reported in the literature for the natural product, for the aglycone viz. citronetin, have been confirmed. The acetyl derivative of the glycoside and the acetyl and the methyl derivatives of the aglycone — have been prepared. The ultra‐violet and infra‐red spectra of the glycoside are discussed.
