The relationships between different thermodynamic parameters of a helium liquefaction and refrigeration (4.5 K) plant are defined. The plant was designed according to a schematic diagram with four cooling stages: with (and without) preliminary nitrogen cooling, with two expanders connected in series

β¦ Synopsis
The study has been performed concerning the influence of the design of helium liquefaction and refrigeration (4,5 K) plants (number of cooling stages in the area of regenerative-expander stages and methods of expander connection, appearance of liquefaction area, availability of nitrogen precoolin~) and thermodynamic parameters (direct flew pressure, relative underrecuperation, number of transfer units) on the refrigerating capacity, the degree Of helium liquefactien, the specific energy consumption. The areas of the regenerative-expander stages have been considered with the number ef expanders fr~ ene to four and and with their parallel, series and parallel-series eennection. The four versions of the liquefaction areas have been considered: with the threttle, with the expander, with the expander and the heat exchanger behind it, with two parallel-connected expanders.
