โฆ Synopsis
The relationships between different thermodynamic parameters of a helium liquefaction and refrigeration (4.5 K) plant are defined. The plant was designed according to a schematic diagram with four cooling stages: with (and without) preliminary nitrogen cooling, with two expanders connected in series in the regeneration-expander area, and with an expander in the liquefaction stage. The influence of the following parameters has been examined: straight flow pressure, relative under-recuperation, total number of transfer units (NTU) in the heat exchangers, isentropic efficiency of the expanders, pressure after the expander in the liquefaction stage and pressure drops on the liquefaction coefficient, specific refrigeration capacity, specific power consumption, flow through the expanders, and intermediate pressure between the expanders.
