โœฆ Synopsis

A two-dimensional (2-D) boundary element method is used to compute the e$ciency of noise barriers in attenuating tra$c noise. Di!erent types of source are considered. Point sources and incoherent line sources can be introduced as results of a post-treatment of the 2-D pressure "eld. The insertion loss of barriers is signi"cantly reduced in the case of more realistic incoherent line sources, as compared to that of coherent line sources. However, the relative e$ciency of tops added to a straight barrier is higher.

The e$ciency of noise barriers is usually estimated neglecting their elastic behaviour. In this paper, the total vibro-acoustical response of simple barriers is considered. A variational approach with a boundary-element technique is used. It is a generalization of an existing formalism developed for

Experiments on the noise-reduction achieved by acoustical barriers have been carried out on a scale model for a straight line source. The latter consisted of incoherent source elements, consisting of small air jets. For the attenuation by a single barrier the simple function AL = -(10 + 6 log N) dB

## Abstract The contemporary press frequently makes mention of, and identifies significance with, specific numerical values in financial markets. This focus has been suggested to result in clustering. Furthermore, these symbolic numbers are often referred to as __psychological barriers__. These eff

Noise reduction by an acoustic barrier of a straight line source is examined with the aid of scale model experiments. The line source used in these experiments is an incoherent line source mechanically radiating broad band noise. From the experimental results a curve can be deduced which shows a rel

Theoretical and experimental investigations into the acoustic performance of noise barriers in a refracting atmosphere are presented. The theory is based on the conformal transformation. It can be shown that the sound field in a refracting atmosphere with an exponential sound speed profile above a f
