โœฆ Synopsis

The action of the increased nir voids in improving the frostresistance is not yet fully understood, but it is believed that they behave in some wny ns n restriction on the iuovenient of moisture within the concrete. Whatever their precise function, it seems clcnr that these materials do give n slight incrense in frost-resistance, but it remains to be seen whether their effect is sulficient to snvc concrete that would otherwise be severely dnninged.

The work described hns been cnrried out RS pnrt of the rcsenrcli progrnnime of the Road Research Board, nnd this paper is published by permission of the Depnrtnieiit of Scientific nnd Industrial Research.

## Abstract The ^13^C n.m.r. spectra of four classes of __N__โ€aryl sulphurโ€“nitrogen compounds are discussed. The __para__ carbon shieldings of the __N__โ€phenyl derivatives reflect the substituents effects of the various nitrogen groups. These show large differences for the four classes of compounds

%S and I4N NMR spectra of nine sulphnr-nitrogen compounds are reported. It is demonstrated that "N NMR gives high signal-to-noise spectra with good discrimination of chemical shifts. It is concluded that both I4N and "S NMR can make a useful contribution to the study of sulphur-nitrogen chemistry an
