โœฆ Synopsis

In the photodissociation of HNCO at 193.3 and 212.6 nm the main channel is NH(a 'A) t CO but the channel HtNCO has also been observed with a yield of 0.050 f 0.006 at 193.3 MI and 0.13 + 0.0 1 at 212.6 nm. Tbe average kinetic energy of the H atoms at 193.3 and 212.6 nm is 10.7 + 1.5 and 11.4? 0.6 kcal/mol respectively. Results are compared with similar data recently repotted for HN,.

The photofragment CO produced in the photodissociation of HNCO at 217 nm shows an image that corresiponds to a perpendicular transition, HNCO(I 'A" + 2 'A'). The rotational energy distribution suggests that the dissociation occurs impulsively from the upper 1 'A" potential surface.

Pbotodissociative production of ion pairs from Hz has been observed in the wavelength range 706-718 A at spectral resoWions of 0.4 and 0.22 A. From measured thresholds for production of H-from Hz molecules in each of the three lowest rotational states, the lower bound EAf.H) 5 0.754 \* 0.002 eV is o
